UCPN Maoist supremo hopeful of elections by mid-June

KATHMANDU: UCPN Maoist Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal has claimed that Consituent Assembly elections were still possible by mid July.

Speaking at a program organized in the capital, Prachanda said that political leaders have been assured favorable climatic and weather conditions during that time by weather and climatic conditions.

” We have held consultations with weather experts and they have assured that this year monsoon rains will be coming late. Therefore elections in June are still possible,” Prachanda said.

His statement comes at a time when the decision to hold CA elections in June is being questioned by some analysts forwarding the fact that most of Nepalese, who are farmers, will be busy in planting paddy in that month.

Asserting that the elections will be held on June 18 at any cost, he directed party cadres to prepare for facing the ballot box. Commenting on the formation of the recent interim electoral government, Prachanda conceded that the a technocrat government is intact a risky action.

However Prachanda said that his party was ready to take such risk to prove that their party was not power hungry and can perform such feats in the future too.

Though he stressed on holding CA elections on June 18, the cabinet meeting on Tuesday failed to pin down a date for the elections.
