Public electric buses begin operation in Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Kathmandu Valley will see public electric buses for the first time in years after the valley trolley-bus service system was officially closed in November 2009.

On Monday, Sundar Yatayat Pvt Ltd began operation of two public electric buses in the Kathmandu roads, promising to add 23 more buses within a year.

“Two more buses will be added in a few days,” said Sundar Yatayat Chair Bhesh Bahadur Thapa. The electric vehicles, which were brought will ply the Ring Road.

The company, which has spent Rs 16.2 million each bus, has also reached a deal with a Chinese company to bring 11 more buses soon.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ishwar Pokharel inaugurated the bus services amid a function.
