NBA reiterates its stand against CJ-led government



KATHMANDU: Just a day after the consultations with the legal practitioners, the top leaders of the major political also held discussions with the officials of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) on Friday as well in a bid to unlock the present deadlock and pave a way for the formation of the CJ-led election government.

Despite the agreement of the major political parties on the CJ-led government, the umbrella organization of the legal practitioners, however, firmly stood against the major political parties’ agreement saying that it was against the principle of power separations and constitutionalism.

During a meeting with the top leaders of major political force—UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and Madhesi Morcha—this afternoon at the Prime Minister’s residence, the NBA members also said that they would not be obliged to accept such government.

NBA President Hari Krishna Karki said the political agreement is against the spirit of the democratic constitution. “Current agreement among the parties could make the judiciary further totalitarian if the chief justice was made the head of the executive.

He said, “If we all are to abide by the principle of power separations, this does not allow a single person heading the executive, legislative and judiciary.”
