Improvement in women’s reproductive health stressed

BANEPA, Oct 10: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that harmful practices taking place in the society science traditions have an adverse impact on women’s health.

Addressing the international conference of gynecologists in Dhulikhel today, President Bhandari expressed sadness over the reports of many women losing their lives untimely due to physical and mental violence, unsafe abortion and lack of health services.

She also stressed the need for improvement in reproductive health of women, gender equality, and ending violence against women. “Doctors should wholeheartedly devote to providing efficient service during delivery”, said President Bhandari.

Saying the country has achieved millennium development goals in the reproductive health despite many obstacles, she said that although the medical sector has been able to make remarkable progress in city areas, the rural areas are still deprived of basic health service.

The President also expressed belief that the conference would develop all-accepted plan to provide quality health service in all areas of the country in an equitable manner.

On the occasion, Vice Chancellor of the Kathmandu University Dr Ramkantha Makaju Shrestha and Dean of the Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences Dr Rajendra Koju shared their experiences in the medical sector.

A total of 300 doctors including gynecologists and physiotherapists from various 10 countries including Nepal, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, India, Canada, United States of America, Sri Lanka, Denmark and Norway have participated in the three-day conference organised jointly by the Germany-Nepal Society of Obstetric and Gynecologist and Dhulikhel Hospital.

Discussion would be held on various issues related to reproductive health in the conference. RSS
