Virus death toll reaches 13, total cases climb to 3235

KATHMANDU, June 6: The Ministry of Health and Population confirmed two more deaths on Saturday as the death toll from the COVID-19 in Nepal climbed to 13.

A 55-year-old female from Dhangadhi-4 of Kailali district, who died on Friday, has tested positive for the virus, said Spokesperson at the ministry, Bikas Devkota.

“She was a kidney patient. She died while undergoing dialysis at Seti Hospital at around 12 pm,” he said adding, “Her swab samples have tested positive.”

Devkota also confirmed the death of another coronavirus patient from Dolpa district.

The information about his death was earlier shared by Social Development Ministry of Karnali Province.

“A 58-year-old male from Jagadulla rural municipality-3 of Dolpa district had returned home on June 1 from hospital after receiving treatment for asthma. He suffered from breathing difficulty and died on June 3,” said the province ministry said in a press release today.

“After his death, his swab samples were collected and sent to Karnali Health Science Academy for COVID-19 test. His results came out positive on Friday,” the release reads.

The number of infections in Nepal has now reached 3235 after Devkota confirmed 323 new infections today. Of them, 3003 are males and 232 are females.

According to Devkota, of the total positive cases found today, 47 are from Dailekh, 39 are from Kapilvastu, 38 are from Salyan, 35 are from Mahottari, 28 are from Bardiya, 27 are from Sarlahi, 12 are from Banke, 11 are from Kapilvastu, 10 each from Surkhet and Syangja, eight each from Dhanusha and Saptari, six each from Morang, Bajhang and Rautahat, five from Sunsari, four each from Kathmandu and Jarajkot, three each from Nawalparasi east, Kaski, Rupandehi and Kanchanpur (including two with permanent address of Kathmandu), two each from Nawalparasi west and Kailali (incuding one death), and one each from Baglung, Achham, Dadeldhura, Dolpa (including one death), Arghakhanchi and Bhaktapur.

The virus has now spread to 70 districts after Jararkot and Dolpa of Karnali province reported their first infections. The province has 589 cases in nine districts.

Province 2 and Province 5 are the worst-hit states with 1077 cases and 1061 cases respectively. 11 districts have been affected by the virus in Province 5.

Province 1 has 249 cases in 12 districts, Sudurpaschim has 106 cases in nine districts, Bagmati has 90 cases in 12 districts and Gandaki has 73 cases in nine districts.
