Oli becomes the first Nepali journalist to bag prestigious AIPS award

BUDAPEST, Feb 4: Senior sports journalist Prajjwal Oli has become the first Nepali national to win the prestigious International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Sports Media Award on Monday. 

The AIPS Sport Media Awards are the highest international accolade in the sports media industry.

A sports reporter at The Kathmandu Post, also the General Secretary of Nepal Sports Journalist Forum, Oli won the ‘best column writing award’ worth Rs 900,000 for his story ‘Nepal barely plays 50 different sports but hosts nearly 200 sports association’ published on July 4 last year.

Through the feature article, Oli had explored the issue of unnecessary establishment of sports associations in Nepal which are barely functional.

Oli was declared winner amidst a grand program in Budapest, Hungary last night, leaving behind his competitors from 125 countries across the globe. 

After receiving the award, Oli said his achievement will be a source of inspiration to the new generation to further work hard in sports journalism. 

Oli has been active in sports journalism for the past one-and-a-half decades.
