National Unity Day: President Bhandari pays respect to Founder

KATHMANDU: President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari has paid her respect on the 298th birth anniversary of King Prithvi Narayan Shah Dev.

Taking out a message for the people on the occasion it stated, “I extend my best wishes on National Unity Day to all Nepalese brothers and sisters.”Since ancient times Nepal has been sovereign, skilled and our ancestors have played a crucial role in our sovereignty”.

Late King Prithvi Narayan Shah Dev under his authority established the sovereign nation of Nepal uniting several principalities through a unity campaign.

Late King Prithvi Narayan Shah was the first Monarch of the Kingdom of Nepal.

He is famous for stating Nepal to be “a yam between two boulders”. He was well versed and an able-bodied administrator.

Towards the end of his life, the King released Divyopadesh (Divine Counsel) where it mentions “Nepal is a garden of four castes and thirty-six sub-castes. It also spoke strictly against corruption “both the giver and taker of bribe is the enemy of the Nation”

The President’s message also said, “Nepal is inclusive and a garden of all castes and we should all be integrated emotionally while acknowledging our unity”.

The message also portrayed the importance of this day and its relevance even though Nepal is now the Federal Democratic Republic.

“We should follow all aspects related to building a strong, self-reliant economy and mobility by strengthening good governance” stated the message from the President on National Unity Day.
