NC slams govt decisions to annul political appointments

KATHMANDU, July 5: The main opposition party Nepali Congress leaders have slammed the government’s decision to annul the political appointments made by the caretaker government led by Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Cabinet on Wednesday had decided to cancel all the decision taken by the erstwhile government from August 30, 2017 till January 2, 2018.

Following the government’s decision to invalidate the previous appointments, almost 300 government staffers including the National Reconstruction Authority CEO Yubaraj Bhusal lost their jobs.

The government is also preparing to dismiss province chiefs from their positions, according to high placed sources.

Nepali Congress leaders have criticized the government’s decision as trying to prompt political conflict in the country.

Nepali Congress Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma said that the government is going in opposition direction instead of bringing the opposition parties onboard with political agreements.

“The government using the power of two-third majority has instigated a political conflict in the country, Sharma told Onlinekhabar.

“The government must clarify the reason behind such decision,” he added.

“If already sworn-in province chiefs are dismised, the members of National Assembly and even the post of Prime Minister will become illegal by default,” he furthered.

Meanwhile the government spokesperson Gokul Prasad Banskota has backed the government’s decision saying it was crucial to salvage political morality in the country.

It may be noted that Deuba-led caretaker government had made several appointments at various ministries, corporations, councils, board and organized institutions violating the code of conduct even after the left alliance had swept the House of Representatives elections.

The government made the decision to nullify the caretaker government’s decision to end the trend of misusing the power and position,” according to Basnkota.
