Government Presents ‘Maoist-Proof’ Security Plan



KATHMANDU: The government has finally prepared a full proof plan to hold the Constituent Assembly polls by foiling the plans of the dissident political parties led by the CPN Maoist. The party and its alliance of 33 parties and groups has announced plans to foil the CA polls– which it claims to counterproductive and against the interest of nations– through various activities including a ten day Nepal-band starting Monday.

Home Ministry has prepared different security plans for all the 10 thousand and 17 voting centers across the nation. While deputing security personals at all of these booths, the Ministry claimed that emergency back up security forces will reach the booth within 10 to 30 minutes in case of any unprecedented situation.

Speaking at a press meet organized at the Ministry, Home Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire said that security measures will be revised and reviewed on daily basis by the district security committee.
Responding to the general fear for the dissident political parties among the general public, Ghimire said that the Maoists and their allies wont be able to foil or obstruct election process. As means to justify his claims of have devised ‘Maoist-proof’ security plan, Ghimire pointed to the heavy deployment of Nepal Army in the election. He reminded that unlike the earlier elections, this edition of CA elections will be held under tight security from the Nepal Army.

Adding to the Nepal Army, Ghimire said that this time around a total 1 lakh and 20 thousand police personals, 32 thousands Armed Police Force, will be mobilized while using around 7561 vehicles to support them.

Ghimire further said that this edition of CA elections has better technological resources to its disposal that will ensure better security to the polls.

In an attempt to add muscles to his arguement, Ghimire forwarded the facts that first edition of CA election campaign had claimed lives of 56 people along with 16 abduction during a time frame of 3 months. And argued that in present edition only one candidate has been murdered and concluded that government’s security plan has been a success so far and called on general public and CA candidates for participating in the elections fearlessly.

The Home Minister promised prompt and rigurous treatment to any one who tries to foil the election campaigns or vote casting.

Responding to the Maoist’s announced 10-day shutdown, Ghimire announced that the government has come up with  complete strategy to counter it. He said that the government has prepared security arrangments for highways and vehicles across the nation.

He said that any vehicle damaged during this ten day period by the band enforces will be compensated with 90 percent of the vehicle’s value. Of this value, twenty five thousand will be provided by the Chief District Officer immediately. The injureds will be provided free treatment by the government.

As an additional measure to maitain peace, the government has announced to seize all weapons, including those with license, claiming that such weaposn could be used by the dissident political parties.

Similarly the government has announced plans to strictly restrict the use of Indian number bearing vehicles in Nepal and has pledged to strictly implement the CA elections code of conduct.
